Abstract
This study analyzes politician appearances in YouTube news videos during election periods. We collected election-related videos from eight Japanese news channels during the 2025 House of Councillors election and the 2026 House of Representatives election. We examined whether target politicians appeared in titles, descriptions, and thumbnails. The results show that politician appearances were more frequent in descriptions than in titles. They also show that thumbnails captured politician appearances that were not identifiable from titles alone. These findings suggest the importance of analyzing not only titles but also descriptions and thumbnails when examining politician appearances in YouTube news.
